Happy May Day

watercolor on paper

Last week I filled a bottle with fresh water from our spring, toted watercolor paints, brushes and paper with me into the woods, scouted out a flat shady spot and used my spring water to paint. I wanted to paint postcards to send to my niece and nephew for May Day. Above is a Green Man, spirit of the woods, and below is a May Queen that turned into more of a woodland sprite. In other parts of the world, particularly in the British Isles, a procession is held on May Day and is led by a May Queen and Green Man in celebration of the beginning of summer. Here are some links to read more about the May Day customs:

Another product of forest painting, this time with a favorite quote.
